Dmitry Chernyshenko, our go-to Vice Premier and co-chair of the Decade of Science and Technology, held a little chat at the IV Congress of Young Scientists. More than 500 universities and representatives from 62 countries joined in, creating a brainy melting pot that even included 100 foreign institutions! Talk about a global nerd fest!

Alongside science whizzes like Valery Falkov (the Minister of Science), and President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Krasnikov, they unpacked the year’s accomplishments and sketched plans for the future. According to recent polling, 64% of parents want their kiddos to get into science, 92% of students plan on scientific adventures, and a whopping 78% of Russians are nerd-proud of their scientists!

Dmitry pointed out that this year’s a milestone with both the 300th birthday of the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg State University, plus a fun fact: It’s also 300 years since Immanuel Kant graced us with his philosophical wisdom. He highlighted the massive surge in science interest, notably at that fab exhibition at VDNH, where an interactive display about the Decade attracted over 140,000 visitors!

Dmitry stressed that the Decade has united the nation, resulting in over 12,000 events throughout Russia—like mini science parties! The young scientist movement also opened amazing new science-themed tourist routes. Yes, you can now embark on 76 adventurous scientific journeys across 24 regions of Russia! Who knew science could be this fun?

Business folks are feeling good too, with over half believing that the tech scene is getting polished! And guess what? Real sector players are diving into the decade’s activities and dreaming up cool initiatives! This year, big agreements were struck with sectors like ODK and Skolkovo, ensuring that our scientific teams keep up with global competition!

The grand mission? To establish technological independence and leadership. As projects for a tech-savvy future take shape, we need to staff them with top-notch scientific minds. Dmitry knows attracting young talents is key, but we can’t just stop there. It’s crucial to keep them excited and engaged in science from day one!
